Hetty said in the finale, when she apologized to Alberta, that in her day, "women were competitors" and she no longer looked at them that way. I'm curious, do you think that's really true? Have your views on women changed much in this program? I think her view of women changed because her view of herself changed, based on her relationships with other women. Starting with the character Rose McIver, of course. I think these things have been tied together in a house—in some houses for thousands of years, hundreds of years at least. Suddenly, now, in just the past two years, they've seen all this change. There's a renaissance going on in the house, and that's because they have access to this new character, a Living Person. Everything seems possible; Everything seems to be subject to change.

What would you say is the most challenging aspect of balancing the humor of this show and the sheer ridiculousness of the premise with the deep sentiments you mentioned? Especially in the case of Hetty, who I think can easily get in trouble if you don't perform as well as you do. Yes, thank you for the praise. It is definitely a refined line. Need to respect the writers who designed all of that in mind. I would say it's hard, but it's also a great gift. Remember that these ghosts are, in many ways, a bunch of children. They are creatures who can truly love Sam, and they would be horrified to see her gone. But at the same time, the consequence for them is that they will not be able to watch television continuously. The selfishness and those things are funny, I think they are understandable, but then they also have a balance with very bonding moments of relationship and family. Honestly, sometimes family is the one you tend to treat the worst. So is our family. I can't wait. I love those two together. I love Sheila Carrasco; I love working with her. One of my favorite storylines in season 2 was the washing machine episode at the beginning of the season. I just think, again, there are a lot of unlikely partnerships [in Ghosts]. The romance [between Hetty and Trevor] is definitely one of them, but I think the friendship between Flower and Hetty will be interesting. Sheila and I text each other all the time, many different scenarios that Hetty and Flower will come up with: We play hide and seek, but then Flower forgets to look.

I think it's both. I really do. Again, it's a good way to make our show a light-hearted comedy that's also a little provocative and a little destructive with teasing in it. Hetty's disdain for Irish people was not uncommon sentiment in America in the 1800s. There is clearly a terrible history in America of anti-immigrant sentiment, and so she represents that. there.
